Lambda Beta Omega

 

National  History

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® was founded on the campus of Howard University on January 15, 1908.

Our 20 Pearls are

Lambda Beta Omega was chartered on June 5, 1976

Community Service

Uplifting the Community

Lambda Beta Omega, our esteemed graduate chapter, actively engages in various community events throughout the year, including the MLK Parade and Program, St. Landry Parish Love Fest, and Balloons and Toons. These engagements allow us to connect with our community on a deeper level, showcasing our commitment to service and solidarity. As we participate in these events, we remain steadfast in our dedication to our main targets: empowering our families, building economic wealth, enhancing our environment, advocating for social justice, and uplifting our local community. Additionally, through our efforts, we proudly award scholarships to deserving individuals, further investing in the future leaders of our community. Through our collective endeavors, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact, fostering positive change and growth in the communities we serve.

Membership

Prospective Members

If you have a bachelor’s or advanced degree(s) from an accredited four-year college or university, membership is obtained through a graduate chapter. An active graduate chapter will extend an authorized and written membership letter of invitation upon approval of the official Membership Intake Process to prospective members.

  • ✨ GEN NEXT SISTERHOOD SPOTLIGHT ✨ Darlyn “Poochie” Cormier worked in St. Landry Parish Schools as a Speech Pathologist and Behavior Counselor through the Pupil Appraisal Center. She retired in 2012 and immediately began working with J. S. Clark Leadership Academy. Poochie, as we fondly call her, is actively involved in her church, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, as well as various organizations. She was educated in the public schools of St. Landry Parish, graduating from the former J. S. Clark High School. She furthered her education by obtaining her B.S., Master’s Degree, and +30 from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was initiated into the Lambda Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in 2000. Presently, she is in her 26th year as a Silver Star and is a Life Member. She is dedicated to service and sisterhood and remains actively involved. Sister Poochie is the devoted mother of one daughter, Keisha Thomas, who is also a member of AKA. She was married to the late Sonny Cormier and enjoys spending time with her grand Yorkie pup, Levi. During her spare time, she enjoys shopping, dining out with friends, and traveling. Sister Poochie has a heart of gold and loves everyone she comes in contact with. There is never a dull moment with her, and no one is a stranger. Sister Darlyn “Poochie” Cormier is committed to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and we appreciate having her as a member of LBO 💕💚

  • CHAMPIONS READY TO SERVE! 🏆💕💚 Lambda Beta Omega had an unforgettable Chapter Retreat last weekend! We stepped into the ring to refresh our knowledge, strengthen our sisterhood, and set our sights on new goals for service and continued chapter growth. A special thank you to our guest speaker, Shelton “Sweet” LeBlanc, owner of Backstreet Boxing Club & Gym and former professional boxer, for inspiring us to keep fighting for excellence, discipline, purpose, and impact. And yes… our champion robes were the perfect reminder that we are dressed for the fight, trained for the mission, and READY TO SERVE! 🥊✨
