Community Service

Uplifting the Community

Lambda Beta Omega, our esteemed graduate chapter, actively engages in various community events throughout the year, including the MLK Parade and Program, St. Landry Parish Love Fest, and Balloons and Toons. These engagements allow us to connect with our community on a deeper level, showcasing our commitment to service and solidarity. As we participate in these events, we remain steadfast in our dedication to our main targets: empowering our families, building economic wealth, enhancing our environment, advocating for social justice, and uplifting our local community. Additionally, through our efforts, we proudly award scholarships to deserving individuals, further investing in the future leaders of our community. Through our collective endeavors, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact, fostering positive change and growth in the communities we serve.

The Lambda Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® 💕💚 Rooted in Opelousas. Serving with Purpose. Almost 50 Years of Impact.
  • Service in action! 💗💚 Our Enhance Our Environment Committee was proud to support Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) with a garden clean-up. Special thanks to these dedicated members of Lambda Beta Omega for helping beautify the space and create a welcoming environment for the children and families CASA serves.
  • Meet Sylvia Calhoun-Daniels, a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® initiated in 2013 through the Rho Beta Omega Chapter. Professionally, Sylvia serves as a passionate Speech-Language Pathologist and is also a partial owner of Serenity Adult Day Healthcare Center, where she helps support and care for members of her community.

Outside of her professional life, Sylvia proudly embraces her role as a boy mom to three Black boy joys, a title she holds closest to her heart. When she finds time for herself, she loves shopping and reading, two of her favorite ways to unwind.

What Sylvia loves most about Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the sisterhood and the sorority’s unwavering commitment to serving communities, values she proudly lives out every day. Sylvia also serves as LBO’s Sisterly Relations Chair. Thank you for your dedication and service! 💕💚
  • This month, we proudly honor the brilliance, resilience, and innovation of Black women entrepreneurs who are building legacy, creating opportunity, and strengthening our communities. From small business owners to industry leaders, Black women continue to redefine what economic empowerment looks like.

Through vision, faith, and determination, they are not only generating wealth but they are creating access, mentorship, and generational impact. As we focus on Building Our Economic Wealth, we celebrate the courage it takes to start, sustain, and scale businesses that serve and uplift others.

Let’s continue to support, invest in, and amplify Black women-owned businesses, not just this month, but every month. 👑
